EMR Select - About EMR Evaluation Criteria Weighting
Types of Weighting
Within EMR Screen™ and
EMR Select™, two basic types of weighting can be applied to
EMR/PM system evaluation criteria. The first is "normalized" weighting in which each normally-weighted evaluation criterion
is of equal importance. The other is "non-normalized" weighting in which specially-weighted criteria are assigned more or less
importance relative to other criteria. So, non-normalized weighting involves "up-weighting" (increased relative importance) or
"down-weighting" (decreased relative importance) a given evaluation criterion.
Weightings Within EMR Screen
The weightings for evaluation criteria within EMR Screen™ have been assigned
by us in our best judgment ("behind the scenes", so to speak). Both normalized and non-normalized weightings have been applied.
These weightings are "fixed", you can't see them, and you cannot change them within
EMR Screen™. The outputs within EMR Screen™ (returned vendors and their ranking)
necessarily depend upon and are directly influenced by these weightings.
Weightings Within EMR Select
Within EMR Select™, the fixed weightings we've assigned to
the evaluation criteria within EMR Screen™ are revealed to you. Further, and
most important, they can now be adjusted by you. For example, if you're a dermatologist, radiology is probably not of great
importance to your practice. Within EMR Select™ you can down-weight the
radiology evaluation criteria and see how that affects your returned vendors or their ranking. One vendor may drop from your list, and
another appear for the first time. Rankings may shift subtly or dramatically. You can change weightings as many times as you like.
Why Is This Important?
With the ability to add and drop evaluation criteria on the fly, and change weightings on the fly, you're given tremendous insight into
why a smallish number of EMR/PM system vendors are best for you, and that insight emerges from a highly-structured and systematic process.
Think of it this way. You have 200+ EMR/PM system vendors on the table, with hundreds of decision points in play. How else would you
analyze your needs and options against these vendors' offerings? Pencil and paper? Use of spreadsheets? You could do it that way, but
it would take you forever and your results wouldn't be reliable because there are simply too many variables to juggle. We've said it
before, and we'll say it again. Pain is inevitable, but suffering is a choice. Use
EMR Select™!
