EMR Match™ Frequently Asked Questions

What is EMR Match™?

Up EMR Match™ is a specialized information technology consultancy platform within Olive Consulting Group LLC. Olive Consulting Group LLC provides information technology sourcing, procurement, and project management consulting services directly to buyers of information technology products and services and to other information technology consulting firms.

How are EMR Match™ Consultants different than other EMR consultants I might hire for my EMR project?

Up EMR Match™ consultants are true EMR/PM system specialists with broad knowledge of clinical and practice workflows and processes. Other "EMR" consultants are often merely information technology generalists, with backgrounds in software or project management, and they lack true experience with EMR and clinical workflows and processes.

Further, EMR Match™ does not accept any commissions, referral fees, finder's fees, overrides or any other compensation whatsoever from any EMR/PM system vendor, publisher, developer or SaaS provider. So, our consultants provide 100% objective advice, with only your best interests in mind. Many other EMR "consultants" are merely resellers of one or more EMR/PM solutions. They don't want to help you find the BEST solution. They want you to buy THEIR solution. They're conflicted.

Lastly, only EMR Match™ offers EMR Screen™ and EMR Select™, EMR vendor screening and selection tools that serve three purposes: (1) systematically determining what EMR/PM solution most closely matches your needs; (2) increasing the efficiency with which our consultuants serve you, thereby lowering your overall project expense; and (3) facilitating competitive bidding among your finalist EMR/PM vendors, thereby allowing you to obtain the best short- and long-term pricing for your chosen solution, as well as other buyer-favorable terms and conditions.

What is EMR Screen™?

Up EMR Screen™ is a high-level EMR/PM system screening tool covering 45+ feature and function points of EMR/PM systems on the market. Users run the tool online, inputting their particular need or preference for each feature and function point. As users input their information, EMR Screen™ will list the EMR/PM vendors whose systems most closely match stated needs and preferences.

How much does it cost to use EMR Screen™?

Up Nothing. EMR Screen™ is FREE, and you can run the tool as many times as you like (e.g., to see how your changed inputs affect your list of returned vendors).

Why does EMR Screen™ begin to list vendors after I have answered only the first question?

Up EMR Screen™ and EMR Match™ are based on an Attribute Analysis model. The very first input or "attribute" you select produces a ranking of EMR/PM vendors in the system based on that input. Each new input produces a new ranking, and so on. The greater the number of inputs you provide, the greater the number of attributes that get considered and "matched".

What is EMR Select™?

Up  EMR Select™ is a comprehensive EMR/PM system screening tool covering 250+ feature and function points of EMR/PM systems on the market. As with EMR Screen™, users input needs and preferences across the various feature and function points, and the tool returns a list of EMR/PM vendors whose systems most closely match the user's stated needs and preferences.

How much does it cost to use EMR Select™?

Up  We license EMR Select™ directly to end users (e.g., a physician practice or hospital) and to other consultants. License options include Single Use (per project), Limited Annual Use, and Unlimited Annual Use. All licensing options include an unlimited number of authorized users.

Why do I need to use EMR Screen™ or EMR Select™?

Up You don't need to use either. Our consultants will work for you with or without the use of these tools. However, most clients elect to use EMR Select™ because its cost is more than offset by the accuracy and expedience the tool affords.

If you have no ties to the EMR/PM vendors, how did their information get into your "system"?

Up After doing multiple Requests for Information (RFIs) and Requests for Proposal (RFPs) on behalf of a diverse range of EMR/PM clients, we developed a standardized set of EMR/PM system evaluation criteria. These evaluation criteria are contained in the EMR Select™ "Buyer Questionnaire". EMR Screen™ contains a subset of these evaluation criteria. Over time, the EMR/PM vendors have supplied their responses to each of these evaluation criteria, and their data resides in the database that supports EMR Select™.

Is your EMR/PM vendor data up to date?

Up Yes. Every time EMR Select™ is used, responding EMR/PM vendors have the opportunity to update their data. It's in their best interest to keep their data current (as they develop new functionality, etc.), and they do keep it current.

Is your EMR/PM vendor data accurate?

Up Yes. However, as you might imagine, for anything like EMR Select™, responding vendors might be inclined to "puff" and exaggerate their system's features and current state of functionality. Although this is true, responding vendors' information is continuously "field tested" by our consultants and clients during trials and demos. If a vendor said it has X, and it doesn't have X, we require that vendor to correct its data (or we correct it for them).

Are EMR Screen™ and EMR Select™ available for use online?

Up Yes. In fact, you must use these tools online. There is no offline version available.

What are the technical requirements for using EMR Match™ and EMR Select™ online (browsers supported, etc.)?

Up Online use of EMR Screen™ and EMR Select™ requires Internet Explorer 7 or greater, Firefox 3.x, Chrome or Chromium. Other browsers may work but are not supported. Because of the heavy use of JavaScript, you will experience faster response times by using Chrome or Chromium.

Can EMR Select™ be used in several "mini projects", over a period of time?

Up Yes. A major theme of EMR Match™ is "Divide and Conquer", and EMR Select™ supports that theme. You can work with one "category" at a time within EMR Select™, or you can assign respective category responsibility to different teams (e.g., clinicians can work on charting criteria, while billing specialists work on billing feature and function). Either way, all of your working data resides and is maintained in one place, allowing you to start again where you left off. With each work session, you can tackle a new category or make revisions to work already completed within a category.

What are your "Deliverables" for a typical EMR/PM project?

Up Clients are free to request whatever Deliverables they may require. We're happy to do as much work or as little work as an individual client requires or prefers. Having said that, typical EMR/PM system Deliverables include:

Technology Evaluation - Analysis of present technology environment.

Clinical Workflows Evaluation - Analysis of current clinical workflows.

Gap Analysis - Comparing current technical capabilities to desired capabilities.

EMR/PM System Needs Evaluation - Develop Client's functional needs and preferences.

ARRA Incentive Estimation - Assist Client's evaluation of ARRA incentive qualification and estimate dollar amounts to be received over time.

Vendor Long List - Develop Client's Vendor Long List (EMR Screen™).

System Demonstrations - Participate in Client's vendor demos.

Vendor Short List - Develop Client's Vendor Short List (EMR Select™).

Vendor Competitive Bidding - Support Client's system acquisition process, obtain best system pricing, and obtain buyer-favorable terms and conditions (eRFx process).

Hardware Selection and Purchase - Assist Client's purchase of required system and network hardware.

Hardware Installation and Configuration - Install Client's hardware and network appliances.

Staff Training - Support vendor's training of Client staff.

Ongoing Support - Support Client's productive use of system, including addition of ancillary technologies as requested by Client.

Why should I license EMR Select™, versus creating my own version?

Up  EMR Select has been developed and revised over a period of years. You can certainly create your own EMR/PM system evaluation criteria and reach out to vendors, but you'll never know what you're missing. If you're bent on re-inventing the wheel, that's up to you.
