EMR Implement - EMR/PM System Training
Vendor's Role
Training your staff to use your new EMR/PM sytem is mainly the domain of your system vendor. Vendors usually offer
several different training options, and it's up to you to pick the best option, or combination of options, for your
particular situation. Your conslutant can help you decide which option(s) to choose.
Typical Training Options
Your vendor will give you the option of having its training specialist visit your location and train your staff onsite. Vendors
typically send one person, and the training usually lasts 2-3 days. Another available option is to send one or more
of your staff to the vendor's location for remote training. Often called the "train the trainer" approach, these
staff members return to your office and train your other staff. In addition to these traditional training approaches, various
self-guided and online training options are usually available.
Saturation
Whatever training approach you take, remember that "saturation" during any traning session usually sets in pretty quickly. Even
during the first hour of training, with the best of trainers, your staff will retain less and less over time. It's usually best to
break training up into shorter, focused sessions, as opposed to one or two extended, "cover everything" sessions. The train-the-trainer
approach might have the edge in this regard. It's also important to know what "refresher" training options your vendor offers, and to
use them as needed.
