Importance of Planning
Good planning is essential to the successful implementation of your new EMR/PM system. You need to determine the
various steps in your implementation process and in what order they'll be carried out. Good planning usually results in
a quick and smooth transition to productive use of your new system. Poor planning usually results in delays, frustrations,
disruptions to the practice, and unhappy patients. Working with a consultant who has been through numerous EMR/PM system
implementations is critical.
Staging
Part of your planning process will include staging. Staging involves identification of critcal steps in your implementation
process and the order in which they must be completed. For example, you have to have your new hardware onsite before you
EMR/PM system can be loaded. You consultant will help you with all aspects of staging in order to avoid self-created delays.
Staging also involves analysis of steps that can be accomplished simultaneously with others, thereby compressing the length
of your implementation process.
